What To Expect From Your Visitor Health Insurance
Apr 10th, 2018 by VisitorHealth

First of all our advice to every visitor or who sponsors their parents, in-laws and relatives – PLEASE buy a visitor health insurance before you come to USA. India Network Services are happy to offer basic health coverage starting from less than a dollar a day (please read the program details here). However we also highly recommend to every visitor in 50+ age group and to everybody who wants to be on the safe side is always buy visitor health insurance with pre-existing condition coverage such as CHUBB Network plan and CHUBB Premier plan.

Lately we got a couple of calls where people asked us to help them with visitor insurance but there was nothing we could do. Let us tell you about two situations with the same result:

The situation #1: A visitor came to the U.S. to spend time with his grandchildren but he decided do not spend money for visitor health insurance. His trip was great, he had good time with children and grandchildren, enjoyed being in a new country and everything went smooth till he got on the airplane to go back home to India. On the airplane all of a sudden he felt dizzy and fainted. Immediately he was taken to the ER where doctors discovered that he already had a life threaten disease and needed to have a surgery and some serious treatments right away. For all of that procedures the medical bills would be hundreds of thousands of dollars if not more. That night we got a call from the visitor’s son who wanted to buy a visitor health insurance right away to cover all the expenses.

The situation #2: A visitor from India came to the U.S.  to spend time with his children. Before that trip every once in a while he had some problems with his heart but he never payed serious attention to that. He did not buy a visitor health insurance. In the middle of his trip he started feeling sick and needed to go to the hospital right away where a couple of hours later he had open heart surgery. Right after the surgery his son also called us and wanted to get visitor health insurance right away.

Of course, we could not sell the insurance coverage to any of these people and all the hospital bills are going to be their responsibility. That’s why there are a couple of things every visitor should know about visitor health insurance before coming to USA:

1. A coverage starts in 24 hours after the purchase and if you’re ALREADY experiencing any symptoms of sickness, you shouldn’t buy the insurance. That WOULD NOT be covered.

2. We ONLY cover new sickness and accidents and pre-existing conditions (ONLY if you purchase a special pre-existing coverage) if you buy insurance coverage at least 24 hour before visitor arrives to USA or sublet to approval.

3. We DO NOT cover medical tourism. If you plan to get medical help in USA, you should be able to pay for it on your own.

4. If you sponsor your parents or relatives to come to USA from India, you might be responsible for ALL MEDICAL BILLS they might have.

India Network Services is a US-based company that administers visitor health insurance to tourists, students, temporary workers and their families. Visitor medical plans are offered for all age groups (0-99 years old) with both fixed coverage, comprehensive coverage and with or without pre-existing condition coverage.

Which is the best visitor health insurance for parents visiting USA?

*The most recommended plan is CHUBB Network 80/20: This is a comprehensive plan that treats both new and pre-existing illnesses the same way. After deductible, CHUBB Network plan covers for 80 percent of medical expense, and the insured is responsible for the remaining 20 percent. It is a great plan for older people and people with pre-existing conditions.

*CHUBB Premier Plan. This is a fixed benefit plan that is also good for people with pre-existing conditions. It’s affordable to fit different budgets and great for different age groups.

* AXIS plan is a very affordable plan that provide coverage for both new sickesses, accidents, and pre-existing conditions. This is a fixed benefits plan which is limited to acute onset coverage only.

The most important thing to keep in mind before buying a visitor health insurance is to read and to understand the plans and exceptions. Call us for more information about our visitor medical insurance plans today!

It’s always nice to have your parents visiting you in the U.S. Whether your parents’ visit is for family reunion, playing with grandchildren, tourism, or vacation, visitor health insurance is very important.parents insurance

There are a lot of health issues that can rise during their visit. Based on age, most parents can easily experience emergency conditions like heart attack, stroke, asthma attack, high blood sugar, and more. These conditions are typically related to age or different pre-existing conditions.

India Network Health Insurance advises every parent visiting from India to take a health insurance plan that covers pre-existing conditions. Recent analysis of claims data shows that majority of high volume and high dollar value claims are originating from pre-existing conditions. An insurance policy without pre-existing coverage is limited to accidents and new problems only, which are not frequent and costs much less.

My dad has diabetes, and his condition is under control. Does he still need a plan with pre-existing?

Yes. Pre-existing plans covers for all illnesses that are originated from conditions like diabetes, heart conditions, and others. Our plans will provide coverages for heart attack, stroke, and many other conditions.

Is medical examination required when purchasing visitor insurance plan?

No, Medical examination is not required for CHUBB plans if purchased before arriving to the United States. It is only required when a visitor is already in the U.S.

If I bring my parents with visitor visa, can they get health insurance?

Yes, they can get visitor health insurance from India Network Foundation. Visitor health insurance is not only important to your guest, but also to you as a sponsor. We offer different health insurance plans for parents visiting USA. Visitors can get insurance coverage depending on their age, health, budget, and time of their stay. Visitor medical insurance is designed to cover for emergency medical needs, accidents and new sicknesses. Anything can go wrong during the visit, that’s why we provide affordable and reliable health insurance to all U.S. visitors.

My parents have green card, but they live in India and come to the U.S. to visit. Can they get visitor health insurance?

Our visitor health insurance plans are designed for all visitors. Even though they have green card, they can still qualify for most of our plans since they are visitors to the U.S.

Do I need pre-existing coverage for my parents even though they are healthy?

Yes. Age is another factor to consider when it comes to pre-excisting conditions. We recommend plans with pre-exisitng coverage for anyone over 50 years old.

AXIS plan vs. CHUBB plans with pre-existing condition coverage
Feb 22nd, 2018 by VisitorHealth

In the context of healthcare in the United States, a pre-existing condition in visitor health insurance such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, ect., is a medical condition that started before a person’s health benefits went into effect. You might look and feel healthy, but you might have a condition that you don’t know about. It’s very painful to find out about a sickness when it’s too late. Most insurance companies do not cover pre-existing conditions.

The main difference between AXIS plan with pre-existing coverage, CHUBB Network and CHUBB Premier plans are pre-existing condition limitation to Acute Onset.
CHUBB Network and CHUBB Premier DO NOT have any Acute Onset limitation. You can go to a doctor anytime you want.

CHUBB Premier is another option for people who are looking for pre-existing coverage and willing to take some risk. This is a fixed benefit plan and is more affordable to fit different budgets. This plan uses a very broad definition like network plan and pays for both pre-existing conditions and new problems using schedule of benefits (Fixed benefits).

AXIS plan with pre-existing coverage DOES have Acute Onset requirement. If you experience an acute onset of a pre-existing condition, benefits are payable according to your policy benefits. Treatment for said condition must be obtained within 12 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or reoccurrence. This is a fixed benefit with very limited coverage of up to $1000 for pre-existing conditions based on a very restrictive definition of acute onset, a common definition used by industry in travel insurance market. Not recommended for any one with serious pre-ex conditions.

CHUBB Network plan covers for 80 percent of medical expense, and the insured is responsible for the remaining 20 percent up to the policy maximum. This is a great plan for older people (50+ years), and people with pre-existing conditions. CHUBB Network plan uses a very broad definition of pre-existing conditions – pre-existing conditions are covered in the same way like new problems and accidents except they are subject to different deductible and different policy max.

What you need to know about acute onset

You should seek medical attention as soon as you experience any symptoms. When it comes to extreme conditions like a heart attack or stroke, people need to get immediate care since these conditions can be very severe, and could cost a lot of money.
People should stay away from insurance plans that have pre-existing condition coverage with acute onset definition. This definition pretty much nullifies the coverage you were expecting for pre-existing conditions as it is impossible to run to the hospital immediately after some discomfort. Due to this reason, any plans that offer millions of dollars of pre-existing conditions coverage using the “ACUTE ONSET” definition at a very low price. As you see very well, most claims do not qualify under the definition of “acute onset” and you will soon realize that plan has no practical coverage for pre-existing conditions.

What is Acute Onset?

Most insurance companies don’t offer pre-existing coverage, but do offer acute onset coverage. There are a lot of exceptions that may apply when it comes to acute onset. For most insurance companies, insured must seek medical attention within 12 or 24 hour window after initial symptoms manifestation in order to be considered acute onset.

Any pre-existing coverage that uses “acute onset” definition is likely to deny your claims.

India Network Services is a US-based company that administers visitor health insurance to tourists, students, temporary workers and their families. Visitor medical plans are offered for all age groups (0-99 years old) with both fixed coverage, comprehensive coverage and with pre-existing condition coverage.

The visitor medical insurance plans offer affordable health insurance for all age groups of visitors (0 – 99 years old) irrespective of their health conditions. Coverage is available for pre-existing conditions through American insurance companies and all claim processing is carried out in the United States. Every year, thousands of families benefit from India Network Visitor Health Insurance plans that facilitate visits from parents and grandparents from around the world to the USA. India Network is pleased to announce new programs and plan options for visitors coming to the USA in 2018. India Network Foundation is a non-profit organization with more than 30 years of experience in helping foreign visitors to the United States through sponsorship of various visitor health insurance plans.

“India Network Foundation has been working with several American Insurance companies such as Gerber Life, AIG, ACE, AXIS and CHUBB since its inception in1990s to provide excellent health insurance coverage for Asian Indians and others visiting the USA. CHUBB has more than $160 billion in assets and $35 billion of gross premiums written in 2016. CHUBB’s core operating insurance companies maintain financial strength ratings of A++ from A.M. Best. It reassures our members that they are in good hands when they get their coverage through India Network Sponsored Plans,” said Dr. KV Rao, Founder President of India Network Foundation, USA.

India Network Plans in 2018 are underwritten by CHUBB American Insurance Company and AXIS American Insurance Company of USA. The AXIS American Insurance company provides programs that offer value for the money to anyone looking for a good visitor health insurance coverage and willing to take higher responsibility for out of pocket costs. The BasicCare Fixed Benefits Plan provides minimum essential coverage for any healthy visitor coming to the United States with lowest premiums possible. Medical Evacuation, Repatriation, and Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage is also included in the minimum essential program. The AXIS Plans offer fixed benefits with limited pre-existing conditions, defined to cover acute onset of pre-existing conditions. More details on this specific coverage can be found at http://www.kvrao.org

CHUBB Insurance company underwrites India Network Health Insurance fixed coverage programs and network plans. These plans offer excellent coverage for pre-existing conditions, new problems and accidents. The CHUBB Premier and Network Plans offer pre-existing conditions coverage on par with new problems and accidents. A major deviation in definition of pre-existing conditions coverage make these plans life savers for many visitors over the years. The Network Program pays 80 percent of covered medical expenses for covered pre-existing conditions and non-pre-existing conditions. A unique feature of the CHUBB program is to provide unconditional medical insurance coverage for a visitor who can be assured of their coverage, for example, a visit to emergency room, irrespective of the reason.

Something every visitor should know
Jan 23rd, 2018 by VisitorHealth

You should go on their website to get more useful information. Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish the flu from a cold. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will help you better understand the difference. You also can protect yourself from the flu with Visitor Health Insurance. That will help you to get a medical help right away and get well faster. Please go on our website to learn more.

Is It the Flu or a Cold?

It’s easy to confuse a common cold with seasonal flu. A cold is milder than the flu, but since the flu can make older people very sick, you should know the difference. That way you will know when to call the doctor, who might want to give you a prescription for medicines that can help you get over the flu.

People with the flu can have fever, chills, dry cough, general aches and pains, and a headache. They feel very tired. Sore throat, sneezing, stuffy nose, or stomach problems are less common. What some people call “stomach flu” is not influenza.

Symptoms If It’s a Cold If It’s the Flu
Fever Rare Usual
Headache Rare Common
General aches, pains Slight Usual; often severe
Tiredness, weakness Sometimes Usual; can last 2 to 3 weeks
Extreme exhaustion Rare Usual; when first become sick
Stuffy nose Common Sometimes
Sneezing Usual Sometimes
Sore throat Common Sometimes
Chest discomfort, cough Mild to moderate hacking cough Common; can become severe

Each winter, millions of people suffer from seasonal flu. Flu—the short name for influenza—is caused by viruses. Viruses are very small germs. Some viruses can spread easily from one person to another. They cause illnesses or infections like the flu.

Flu is a mild illness for some people. For older people, especially those who have health problems like diabetes or heart disease, the flu can be very serious, even life-threatening.

How Does Flu Spread?

The flu is contagious—that means it spreads from person to person, often through the air. You can pass on the infection before you feel sick. You are contagious for several days after you get sick. You can catch the flu when someone near you coughs or sneezes. Or, if you touch something the virus is on, and then touch your nose or mouth, you could catch the flu. The flu virus can live on a surface like a book or doorknob for a number of hours. Remember to wash your hands often when you are around someone who is sick. Make a point of washing them before eating or touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. If you can, stay away from sick people. That will help stop the flu from spreading.

How Serious Is Flu?

Most people who get the flu feel much better in a week or two. But, some people can get very sick. For example, because your body is busy fighting off the flu, you might pick up a second infection. Older people are at great risk of these secondary infections, such as pneumonia.

What Can I Do If I Get the Flu?

If you get the flu, there are things you can do to feel better. First, call your doctor to see if there are medicines that can help. Remind him or her if you are taking drugs to fight cancer or other medicines that make it hard for your body to fight illness. There are prescription drugs, called antivirals, that are used to treat people with the flu. If you take them within 48 hours after the flu begins, these drugs can make you feel better more quickly. Antibiotics do not help you get over the flu. They are sometimes prescribed to help you get over a secondary infection if it is caused by bacteria. Bacteria are a different type of germ than viruses.

Antivirals can also be used to prevent flu. If you hear that there is a flu outbreak in your area, check with your doctor. He or she could prescribe an antiviral that might protect you. Prevention is key.

If you are sick, try to rest in bed and drink plenty of fluids, like juice and water but not alcohol. Medicine such as acetaminophen can bring down your fever, which might help with the aches and pains. It is important not to smoke if you are sick with the flu. It is a respiratory illness that can infect your lungs, as well as your nasal passages. These same areas are also bothered by smoking. Take it easy as much as you can until you are well.
